The most startling thing is all the body changes. I was looking forward to no more periods, until all the changes happened.... drier skin, thinning hair, loss of collagen & elastin in the skin, sagging boobage, fatigue, depression, hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, harder to keep the weight off. Not everyone gets all of these.... my mom had no symptoms. I've had them all, darn it! Getting old is not for sissies!

I have not had a hysterectomy, and went through the 'pause with no weird problems. I was in mid fifties when I was smack in the middle of it, and I would say with in a year I was pretty much done with it. Sure I had the sweats, and they were pretty fierce at times, but doable. There have been some changes in my health since..like allergies popping up...I don't think that I had them before. Now I find that my cholesterol is going up...I don't think I had that problem before. It is so nice to go through the months and not have that certain week to contend with..whew..that is the best part of it. I do not take any hormones either. I keep my weight down and get lots of exercise. Maybe I am just one of the lucky ones but I didn't have a hard time with it.
