Bird lady asked:
Anyone out there have any suggestions to deal with these raging hot flashes ? I thought once I got rid of that period I would be home free, but noooooooooo those hot flashes just intensified. I have heard that HRT is bad for you, but I have tried the natural stuff; which I would prefer, but have had no luck. I also dont sleep very well due to the hot flashes. Is HRT effective in lower doses? Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank You.

they will come and go so be prepared…try drinking ice water a lot and exercise and lose weight..thats what I’ve seen help…yoga too!
Get some sleeping pills from the doctor, which helps you sleep through the night. Wear a light cotton shirt to bed and have a fan next to you. I have heard from friends that HRT helps them alot with the night sweats. Without HRT you body eventually will adjust to the hormone drop and the hot flashes will eventually disappear. I personally would stay away from HRT, because it is not natural and can cause ****** and uterus cancer. I’d rather deal with hot flashes than cancer.
I am always in front of a fan. Hot flashes are unbearable sometimes. Watch your diet and keep your weight down. Where light clothing when you can. Keep a fan handy.
I am on the patch. The Dr. keeps raising the dosage and each time it cuts down on some of the hot flashes. I can’t say I’ve found anything that works greatly though except for sitting in front of a fan and trying to relax. Talk to your Dr. there are plenty of things you could try. I also couldn’t sleep for a while into my menopause (had a hysterectomy at 26) but with time my body adjusted. Not a single sleeping pill out there helped. Buy an Enya CD. I could never listen to it normally but it does wonders when you need to relax.
I gathered a pretty good amount of stuff for you, Kathy, but the computer “ate” it, so sorry!
